Halloween is a time of year when the air gets crisper, the days get shorter, and for many children the excitement grows in anticipation of evening activities. Retailers certainly rejoice as they warm up their cash registers from the sale of decorations, costumes, pumpkins and sweets. But many parents are unhappy by the commercialism of Halloween and further concerned by pressure on children to take part in "Trick or Treat"

In the church calendar, 31st October is known as "All Hallows Eve". Traditionally, the following day was to remember and celebrate those who lived before us and contributed to the life of the church and society. The loss of the affirmative nature of this celebration is something that many people regret. So families in Polesworth were invited on the evening of 31st October to LIGHT NIGHT - a free positive celebration held in the church and the grounds of Polesworth Baptist Church.

Activities available which were suitable for children, young people and adults, included: Apple Bobbing * Treasure Hunt * Toasting Marshmallows * Craft Work * Donut on a String * Face Painting, Free Glow Sticks * Hot Chocolate * BBQ with hot dogs and beef burgers. Well over 100 children, parents and grandparents from the village joined together and enjoyed a brilliant evening.
